Why do I need braces?

“Malocclusion” is a misalignment of the teeth and may be caused by a misaligned jaw, missing teeth, extra teeth, or having crowded teeth. Malocclusions, also known as “bad bite”, is mainly genetic, but may be a result losing teeth in accident, losing teeth too late or too early, or not having adequate oral habits for long periods of time.

Early diagnosis can help bypass full orthodontic treatment. If Dr. Patino concludes that your child needs braces, it is important to first consult your child because braces can cause emotional damage due to your child’s sensitivity towards his/her appearance.

Orthodontic Care Services

Though an orthodontist can enhance a smile at any age, there is an optimal time period to begin treatment.Early Treatment

When is the best time to begin orthodontics?
Though an orthodontist can enhance a smile at any age, there is an optimal time period to begin treatment. Beginning treatment at this time ensures the greatest result and the least amount of time and expense. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that the initial orthodontic evaluation should occur at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. At this early age, orthodontic treatment may not be necessary, but vigilant examination can anticipate the most advantageous time to begin treatment.

Adult Treatment
Braces aren’t just for kids anymore. Tooth alignment can be changed at any age if your gums and bone structure are healthy.

Braces aren’t just for kids anymore. Tooth alignment can be changed at any age if your gums and bone structure are healthy. We offer a variety of treatments that are designed for different age groups – including adults. A new smile can begin today.

Orthodontic treatment at later stages in life can dramatically improve your personal appearance and self-esteem. Improving the health of your teeth and gums is equally important. Crooked teeth and a bad bite can contribute to gum and bone loss, tooth decay, abnormal wear of the tooth enamel and surfaces, headaches and jaw joint (TMJ/TMD) pain.

Good news! The new techniques and appliances we use greatly reduce discomfort levels, decrease the frequency of visits, shorten treatment time and may allow you to choose from several options. Your options may include metal braces, translucent braces or transparent aligners that can be worn at night to improve mild cases of misaligned teeth << READ MORE

Retention
Once the active period is completed, your braces are removed. The next step is called retention.

Once the active period is completed, your braces are removed. The next step is called retention. Retainers are utilized to hold your teeth in their new positions until your bone, gums, and muscles adapt to the new teeth positions. You must wear your retainer as instructed, otherwise your teeth may move toward their original positions and the benefit of wearing your braces will be lost.

Dr. Patino will determine how long you need to wear your retainer. Time varies with each patient. Some people may need retainers for an extended period of time in order to eliminate shifting of the teeth. In some cases, permanent retention may be necessary.
The retention period is an important part of your overall treatment and should not be neglected!

Remember; wear them in your mouth, not in your pocket. Retainers work when you follow our instructions. Clean your retainers! After meals, clean all parts of the retainer with a toothbrush cold water and toothpaste. << READ MORE

Invisalign® Teen
Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment.

Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. And no metal and wires usually means you spend less time in your doctor's office getting adjustments.

Invisalign Teen also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

To ensure the best possible results, only an orthodontist who has been trained and certified by Align Technology can diagnose and treat using Invisalign® Teen. Invisalign® Teen is not intended for children and is not appropriate for every adult. Only an orthodontist can determine if this treatment is an effective option for you. To see if Invisalign® Teen can help you achieve the smile you've always wanted, call us at (925) 689-9350 to make an appointment. << READ MORE
